MZA Text — Learning in a Changing World

Education is changing rapidly. In the past, students often depended mainly on textbooks and classroom explanations. Today, they can also use videos, digital libraries, interactive exercises and online learning platforms.

However, access to information does not automatically create knowledge. Students must learn how to select reliable sources, compare ideas and understand the information they find.

Technology can make learning more flexible, but it also requires responsibility. A learner who spends hours online without a clear objective may waste time, while another student can use the same technology to develop new skills.

For this reason, successful learning increasingly depends on autonomy, critical thinking and the ability to organize one’s work.

Part 1 — Reading Comprehension

1. What is the main idea of the text?
2. How has access to learning resources changed?
3. Why does access to information not automatically create knowledge?
4. What qualities are necessary for successful learning according to the text?
5. Suggest an appropriate title for the text.
Focus on the idea that appears throughout the whole text rather than on one single paragraph.

Part 2 — Vocabulary

1. Find a word in the text that means “trustworthy”.
2. Give a synonym for “flexible”.
3. Give the opposite of “successful”.
4. Use the word “responsibility” in a meaningful sentence.

Part 3 — Grammar

1. Rewrite in the negative: “Technology makes learning more flexible.”
2. Put this sentence in the past: “Students use digital libraries.”
3. Complete: If students organize their work, they ______ more efficiently.
4. Change into the passive voice: “Students use online platforms.”

Part 4 — Communication

Your friend spends too much time online without studying efficiently. Give him or her three pieces of advice.
You can use expressions such as “You should…”, “You could…”, or “Why don’t you…?”

Part 5 — Writing

Do digital technologies make students better learners? Write a structured paragraph or short essay giving your opinion.
State your opinion clearly, develop two arguments, give examples and finish with a short conclusion.
